Pizza Girl August September 2003 Issue 1.

Gossip and Grumbles with Pizza Girl.

All the best to ex Bookmark owner Sally May and her 35 year old French Lover. Thanks for contributing so much to the local community with the colourful to be missed, ten year reign of the Bookmark. Sally please send us updates on your lovers from time to time.

Here’s hoping the premises are taken on by an equally fine community resource, perhaps another estate agent or even a bathroom display shop? Much more useful than a delicatessen, book or fish and chip shop. Plus the bonus of pavements blocked with toilets, baths and cardboard boxes and those great little white packaging things that blow around with the poetry of leaves.

Sorry to read about the West Hill Hall roof rip off in the last issue. Bankrupt and run to the Costa del Crime eh? What of the other partners in the firm? Can we get them? Do you have a Spanish address? I reckon a visit is in order. Maybe we should use Tinkers Hardware to find them, they say they can get anything. (By the way did you know Tinkers carry one of the largest range of light bulbs in Brighton?)

I realise of course why didn’t you write-up the scandalous roof malarkey in the Whistler, to many local stories would create less space for articles on wine, financial advice and those probing interviews. Good thinking ed. C’mon you sifflers sort it out. We can make more noise than the new train horns.

Congratulations on the brilliant cover for the last issue entitled “Beside the Seaside” the image of Budleiigh-Salterton in Devon was an inspired choice. A view of the ravaged skeleton of our ex West Pier would indeed have been tired and predictable as would have been any actual articles about the seaside. How about entitling the next edition Liverpool Real City of Culture? I enclose a picture of my Grandparents holidaying in Blackenburg in Belgium in 1951 for use on the cover.

So you have just discovered Aubrey Beardsley (Artist and fish fryer) lived locally, next your be telling us Montpelier Crescent was an international cricket ground! and Compton Avenue was Compton Terrace with gates at each end to keep the riff- raff out. Hey what a good idea!

No news yet on when the local Sushi bar is going to open. (opposite Tinkers Hardware
“ We operate a free daily delivery service”) It will be great to pop in there after a manicure
and a bet next door, A sneak view inside promises excellent wood finishes, a glass ceiling and no air conditioning.

After its amazing make-over the “ bring your own wine” Little Buddha is now re-open again. Check out the new “got to be seen to be believed “ interior.

The Compton Arms is to become the first pub in the country to invite patrons to
“bring their own beer”.
Terry the fat bloke out of Changing rooms was spotted entering the Compton after the Little Buddha re-launch party. His inspired designs for the Top Thai Tastery were a master stoke. The simple repainting and putting back the old carpet and tables and chairs really took nostalgia to new depths.

Check out the new outside clean air seating areas all over the Dials. Watch those cappuccino fuelled housing prices keep on creeping up. The Compton will be opening up a beer garden in its bin area next. Yum.

Fact or fiction? Our local charity collectors outside the excellent Alldays and the spacious Co-op have nearly collected enough for the West Hill Community Centre extension. Our heartfelt thanks for their generosity. Thanks also go out to all those who regularly feed the Dials seagulls especially those who put their rubbish out just after the Bin-Persons have just collected.

Well done to the artist for the cartoon in the last issue, the one with the two chaps with cloth caps outside the Compton Arms, brilliant ! why don't you call it Andy Cap?

A tip for local House owners who want to increase the value of your home ? Why not rip out your front garden and park your 4x4’s there instead Not only does this look fantastic it also shows great community spirit.

That's all for now except to send our love in remembrance to Danny the Pipe who has quietly passed away, a true Dials boy, who will be genuinely missed. Plus greetings to the Turkish Meze bar the Wedding Shop and newly opened Cafe Ten opposite the Compton Arms. Well handy .

Next month a report from the other-side of the Dials. Any news ? gossip ? or rumours ? I’d love to hear from you.
