Pizza Girl June/July 2005 Issue 6

GOSSIP & GRUMBLES WITH PIZZA GIRL

The newly opened West Pier is phenomenal, what  an inspired structure. Fancy it being completed before the bar at the old chippy. Will they ever get planning permission?

The Udden-Austin-Mishon empire threw a party in the swanky oriental gardens of the lofts at the old Children's Hospital. The occasion? To celebrate their sale of the first £1 million bed-sit in Albert Road “ It’s our way of saying thanks  to the people of Little London” (formerly West Hill) . The no kids policy worked very well. Town mayor Julie Burchill who now owns Hastings drew the raffle for the yellow Ferrari .

“Au-revoir our friend” the last tree has been felled in Compton Avenue, they never recovered from the  severe pruning of 04. Now all the front gardens are asphalted.Today I counted thirty 6x6 people transporters parked on them, That is a sight.

Happy first anniversary to the Dials Roundabout Restaurant. This  360 degree five story
glass beauty has quickly become a local favourite, its green tea is worth the admission price
alone. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay long as my table was a buy to let time share.
So many changes since the collapse of the Pink Pound, not least the reverting back to Town status. Re-introducing the white Police helmets is great, but  scrapping  the black container bins  seems odd.

Apparently tourism bosses think visitors remembered Brighton as filthy and want the “real deal” not some “homogenised sterile environment”. So  bin bags and binmen are now retro chic. I think they should have consulted us though.

Talking of retro chic. I’ve heard the Dials Restaurants is set for another refit, going with a plastic kitsch re-creationof the 90’s Burger King that it replaced.T hankfully it will still retain signature dishes like Prune marinated kippers in hawthorn jus with eel glaze.Give the “dry.. suckling pig” a miss though.

Property Developers are poised to build a landmark 82 storey tower on the site of the West Hill Hall. The persons who lease the Penthouses will not only be close to London they will actually be able to see it. Exchanged for the site is a purpose built multi million pound community centre in Portslade. Very Handy! Tongues are wagging, I’ve heard more than a few “new locals” spluttering over their Tequila Slammers, “We haven’t bought  second homes down here to be squeezed  by entrepreneurs from Leeds. It’s bad enough with negative equity, the Porsche parking problem and the already crowded Restaurants and bars... this is just to much.” Yes it is.

The Dials international Food Fest is to be expanded from it’s Montpelier Crescent  home. Little London and the neighbouring streets will be closed to traffic for the month of fab foody fun. Did you know Locals can now get four figure sums a week to rent out  during food fest?

The Co-ops “I never miss a day” charity collector and occasional Big Issue seller Old Dick is rumoured to have just bought a second buy to let property in Buckingham Road. His pitch by the bus stop is currently up for rent review .
